Forget All That. Let’s Just Have Fun.

Whew! What a serious year 2011 was. How can we tell? I hardly blogged at all. But that’s okay, because cool things happened. I met new clients and new stories. I wrote some stuff. I made hard decisions regarding my writing life. It was all very grown up.

And now, having had my sabbatical year, it is time. I refer you to this quote, forwarded to me by my extremely awesome youngest sibling:

It is summer time! It is time to climb up on things and yell at other things that are too high to reach. It is time to mess up the calm quiet routines we built up all winter. With fire. It is time to make yourself proud and everyone else a little nervous.

-joey comeau, writer, a softer world

Okay. Fine. It is not summer time in Canada. But it is in New Zealand, and I plead Kiwi Summer for the commencement of 2012 and the recommencement of Scienda’s regularly scheduled madness (for real this time I think maybe).

It’s a new year! Please, fling happies all over the place with me!

  1. Let the frolics begin!

  2. So that’s where the summer went! Hasn’t made much of a showing here yet, but the first signs are there.
And…yay! Gladly flinging happies with ya. :)

  3. Frolic? I’m not sure I remember how….. I’ll start by adding it to my “to-do” list….. Paul and I have begun the year by scheduling one night a week, hopefully to work up to two nights, to be devoted entirely to artistic endeavors like writing, drawing, decorating projects, etc. ( for me this designation also includes reading books, which tends to be very helpful to my writing). Anything that’s not social networking and run-of-the-mill housework.

  4. @Grace Maybe it *is* where your summer went. Canada hasn’t been able to decide all winter whether it wants to be above freezing or below freezing. It’s really weird!

@Laurie We have got to do something with you two. “Frolic” and “to-do list” are inherently incompatible. ;-)

Having an artist’s shabbat once a week does sound like a very good idea!

  5. [It was all very grown up]

I am enjoying the calm, quiet routine of my winter. I am not prepared to face adult problems and decisions. I plan to rest and let my Father care deeply for me this year. I don’t know if I will blog it or not. It is a little embarrassing to admit that I am purposely entering a second childhood.

    • Second childhoods…I’m liking the sound of this. Dave, of course, says, “Second? How very restrictive. You mean the first one has to end??”

I think you’re in good company around here. :-) God’s blessings on you–resting in Him is never an untimely practice.
