Neighbourhood Roundup!

It is totally way past time for a Scienda neighbourhood roundup. (By the way, I think the neighbourhood has experienced some growth, as I go over my mental list of known suspects. Much of interest abounds.) Folks have been writing whimsically lovely and interesting and hilarious things. I have been reading them. Here they are, in almost no particular order. Continue reading

My Marriage Column Needs a Name

I’m going to be writing every other month for PositivelyFeminine.org on marriage. This will start promptly in April. I have a problem. Article titles, I can usually come by. But do you know how much trouble I had just naming this blog? It took me six years to find the right name for a blog.

So, the Suggestion Box is open for a name for this column — something to appear above the more individualized title of every piece, something which reflects the theme of marriage, one would assume.

As mentioned in the past, I’m terrible at girly romantic-like word choices. Dave? Walt? Quixote? Ratbert? Hank? Johne? cl, if you’re out there at the moment? What should a 500-word column addressing women on healthy relationship to their husbands be called?

Gals, what would catch your eye? When you think of relationships in general, what’s the first thing (blessing, theme or underlying question) that comes to mind?

In the meantime, “No-Name Marriage Stuff” kind of bites…

Examining NGJ’s Doctrine: Concerns on Christ

We continue last week’s look at the doctrine of No Greater Joy Ministries. Since last time, continuing research and familiarizing with their materials has caused more things to come to light.

As we did last time, we will include clarifications and expansions from the books and web articles of the ministry. Last week, we looked at NGJ’s concept of humankind. We’ll now take some time to examine NGJ’s ideas about man’s relationship to God.

For those who feel there is good to be found in NGJ’s materials, we will be treating the relationship of their positive anecdotes and teachings to the theology discussed here. Our intention is to give as complete a perspective as possible within the constraints of web-based writing (maximum 2000 words per article) and our own time commitments.

In order to be thorough, this week will cover Cat’s concerns, and next week will give Dave’s doctrinal analysis. Continue reading

5: Homeworld

Wesley Liu was the first to volunteer for the Earthside drop. Elgin Parker didn’t need much time to think about it. Three seconds, maybe. “I can’t think of a better man. You’re approved. Your mission is to take Shuttle 32 to the Arctic station, where the extent of global contamination can be confirmed before proceeding, and a course of action more easily planned than we could do from here. From there, you’ll be given a course to take you to the Level 4 lab at Winnipeg, Canada. Your goal is to deliver three of the Moonborn to the facility there.”

Liu slouched deeper into his seat. He unfolded his hands from behind his head, lowering his arms and crossing them. “What about the rest of the kids?”

“Others will be responsible for them at a later time. Our first priority is to make contact with the lab. The team there needs a chance to examine potential outcomes before we proceed.” Continue reading
