Mundane Changes

So I really did tidy up my sidebar, because what with the ice boat in the living room and the many other things about here at the moment, it’s the easiest thing to clean, and even this tomboy is still feminine that way. I’ve picked up most people’s RSS feeds. But, hinty-hint: I would love to be able to get posts by email in some cases where it’s not currently offered. If you are in the Reading Room and don’t offer this, I humbly beg of you to consider it.

Vicarious Winter Sailing

You’ll see 16-year-old Jess Watson’s sailing circumnav remains there. Jessica is attempting to set a world record as the youngest solo sailor to complete a journey like this. Dave and I are both following her, and the kids as well. I certainly was glued to her latest post describing the beating she took in the gale a couple of days ago. Much as antique, classic sailing is also a neat venture, I’m thankful to the invention of autopilot for Jess’s life. And, mast at 180 degrees from upright is a bit beyond knockdown, in spite of the young captain’s coolheaded summary. That’s a turtling, and sure’s Hades not how I’d want to experience it. Weekend Update

Chevy Chase Weekend Update SNL After a lovely weekend away, it seems appropriate to make a summary of January so far.

1. As soon as I posted about how redonkulously cold it is, it warmed up. For a bit, it was actually warmer here than it was in Texas. If I had known this about the power of blogging, I would have taken action last year already.

2. The blog sabbatical thing is having mixed results. Yes, things are getting done, but I’m also feeling like it’s not as much as I want done. Having said, “I need this month to concentrate on…” means something different to me than it may to others. Also, I feel like my brain is rotting without the steady diet of thinky things. That said, yesterday involved a fine thinky-write, fiction style. Continue reading
